Dubai: UAE travellers aren’t slowing down this summer. With July bookings up 12% year-on-year, according to dnata Travel, France, the Maldives, and Thailand are leading the way as top picks for late summer escapes in August and September.

City breaks, cooler climates, and short-haul island getaways are in high demand as residents look to make the most of the season without sacrificing comfort or culture.

France takes top spot

France is the most booked destination this season among UAE travellers. According to dnata Travel, the country’s summer peak in August—with bustling streets, open-air events, and cooler nights—offers a refreshing contrast to summer heat. From sun-drenched Parisian cafés to alpine escapes, France is delivering the kind of summer break that feels like a complete reset.

Maldives, Phuket, Turkey

Second only to France is the Maldives, a go-to for UAE residents year-round. Its barefoot luxury, turquoise waters, and proximity make it ideal for both couples and families.

Thailand and Turkey remain reliable favourites, particularly Phuket and Istanbul, for their balance of relaxation, shopping, and food. Austria, meanwhile, made a surprise entry into the top five, as more UAE travellers head for cooler outdoor destinations with a dose of nature.

“We’re seeing more purposeful travel decisions,” said Meerah Ketait, Head of Retail and Leisure at dnata Travel.“Whether it’s a city break or a quiet beach, people know exactly what they want from their time away.”

City getaways turn obsession

According to dnata’s latest data, city getaways are the most booked type of trip, beating out beach resorts and family vacations. From weekend escapes in Vienna to exploring the streets of Tokyo, UAE travellers are chasing culture, cuisine, and quick-hit experiences.

This trend points to a broader shift: UAE residents want immersion over indulgence, and value-packed itineraries over extended stays.

Last-minute plans, secret stays

Even though most bookings still happen 2–3 months in advance, dnata Travel is seeing a noticeable uptick in last-minute travellers. Many are securing holidays just two to three weeks ahead of departure, favouring flexibility and speed.

To tap into that, dnata Travel has launched Secret Stays Maldives – a bold new product offering handpicked luxury trips where the name of the resort is revealed only after booking.

“It’s about trust and adventure,” Ketait explained.“Travellers are open to surprises—as long as quality is guaranteed.”

New destinations catch eye

Beyond the top five, Greece, the Czech Republic, Japan, and Canada are gaining momentum for August and September trips. These destinations offer a mix of cooler weather, historic cities, and seasonal highlights—perfect for travellers looking to beat the heat and try something new.

Key takeaway for UAE travellers? Whether it’s postcard moments in Paris, barefoot island luxury in the Maldives, or spontaneous city strolls in Prague, one thing’s clear: UAE residents aren’t done travelling this summer—they’re just getting started.
