Dubai: It appears as though many UAE residents are holding off on their summer holiday bookings until the very last minute while also looking to explore exciting new international destinations.

A recent survey by Skyscanner reveals that over half of UAE residents (55 per cent) plan to travel abroad this summer, with 59 per cent actively seeking places they haven't visited. Surprisingly, 48 per cent haven't even booked their trips yet but are busy researching options.

This trend highlights a desire among UAE travellers to make the most of their summer breaks, often coinciding with school holidays. Rather than sticking to familiar spots, families are increasingly interested in destinations that offer new experiences and good value rather than sticking to familiar spots.

"With the summer holidays coinciding with the traditional end-of-school academic years, parents are looking to make the most of the long summer in new environments," said Ayoub El Mamoun, Travel Expert at Skyscanner.

"Rather than returning to familiar destinations, many now prefer lesser-known destinations that not only offer value for money but also unique and enjoyable experiences, benefitting both adults and children while exploring new cultures and settings," he said.

Destination options

Skyscanner has highlighted three family-friendly, visa-free destinations that are gaining popularity among UAE residents:

  • Georgia: This European gem in the Caucasus region is seeing a surge in interest, with a 21 per cent increase in searches in April. It offers attractions like the National Museum of Georgia, the fun-filled Mtatsminda Park with rides and entertainment, and several family-friendly beach resorts. That said, Georgia has tightened visa regulations for tourists from certain nationalities. Make sure you have your travel documents in place while heading to Georgia.

  • Montenegro: Despite its small size, this European nation provides various activities for all ages. Families can enjoy thrilling experiences like canyoning in the Durmitor Mountains, visiting agrotourism farms, or zip-lining over the breathtaking Tara Gorge. UAE residents, including those with UAE resident visas, generally do not need a visa to enter Montenegro for tourism. This visa-free entry applies to stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. However, you will need to have a valid passport, proof of accommodation (like a hotel booking or rental agreement), and confirmed return tickets.

  • Kazakhstan: Offering a mix of outdoor adventures and educational experiences, Kazakhstan is also becoming a family favourite. Almaty's Kok-Tobe Hill boasts an amusement park. At the same time, the awe-inspiring Charyn Canyon dubbed the 'Grand Canyon of Central Asia,' is perfect for hiking and exploring unique rock formations and wildlife.

With 97 per cent of those surveyed emphasizing the importance of maximizing their summer break, these fresh destinations offer appealing options for families looking to create new memories and explore diverse cultures.
