Dubai Dubai Airports Monday launched integrated Information zones in the three terminals of Dubai International Airport (DIA), enabling passengers to navigate their way around the airport.

The zones, which will replace the traditional information desks, will act as one-stop shops that will instantly provide information on all the airport's services and facilities as well as assist with boarding and security procedures. New touchscreens will allow passengers to scan boarding passes and get directions directly to their gate.

The new technology will provide "sleek new maps of the airport and 40-inch LCD touchscreens that provide real-time and easy-to-understand directions to boarding gates, restaurants and other facilities at Dubai International," the airport body said, adding that the zones will house way-finding touchscreens in addition to staff trained to deal with all passenger queries at the world's fourth busiest airport.

Service and innovation

"Service and innovation have long been the hallmark of Dubai, and form the foundation upon which the emirate's economic success has been built. These new way-finding technologies are just another example of how Dubai and Dubai Airports are maintaining that proud tradition and leading the way when it comes to service," said Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Airports, who inaugurated the new facility at Terminal 3. With more than 50 million people catching more than 300,000 flights from Dubai International every year, the new facility will provide the "right information to our passengers as soon as it is requested", according to Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports.

"It is vital to maintaining our high service standards," he said, adding that the new technology brings Dubai International a step closer to its aim of becoming the "world's best airport".

Designed by local boutique Almax Design, the information zones will also have new static maps with which passengers can familiarise themselves with the layout of the terminals and locate all retail, food and beverage and entertainment services, Dubai Airports said, adding that printed map cards will also be available at these kiosks.
