Dubai: As UAE residents grapple with prolonged delays in obtaining Schengen visas for travel to Europe, the United Kingdom is fast becoming a preferred destination, thanks to its streamlined visa services that offer decisions in as little as 24 hours.

With the summer travel season fast approaching, applicants are growing increasingly frustrated by backlogs, limited appointments, and extended processing times at the European missions in the UAE. In contrast, the UK’s Priority and Super Priority visa options are offering travellers an efficient alternative.

“You may be able to pay for a faster decision on a visa or settlement (‘indefinite leave to remain’) application,” states the UK Government’s official guidance on GOV.UK.

Super priority visa

The Super Priority Visa Service is the fastest route for those applying for UK visas from the UAE, promising a decision by the next working day, or within two working days if the biometric appointment falls on a weekend or UK bank holiday, according to the information provided by the UK Home Office.

Processing time

  • Usually within 1 working day

  • Cost: £1,000 (approx. Dh5,000) in addition to the standard visa application fee

  • Eligibility: Applies to most short-term visitor visas, work visas, student visas, and settlement applications

According to the UK Home Office: “If you are eligible, you can choose the ‘super priority service’ when you apply. You will usually get a decision by the end of the next working day after your appointment, if your appointment is on a weekday.”

Priority service: Five working days

For travellers who do not need an immediate result but still want a fast turnaround, the Priority Visa Service provided by the UK Embassies offers a five-working-day decision window.

Priority Service Details:

  • Processing time: Usually within 5 working days

  • Cost: £500 (approx. Dh2500) in addition to the visa application fee

  • Start time: From your biometric appointment or after submitting documents via the UK Immigration app

Exceptions

Applicants are advised that in rare cases, decisions may take longer if the UK Home Office needs to verify details or request additional documentation.

Standard and long-term visitor visa fees

In addition to expedited services, the UK also offers a range of short- and long-term Standard Visitor visas. These allow for multiple entries over two, five, or 10 years, with each visit capped at six months. Regular application process time is usually three weeks after giving the biometrics at the VFS Global Offices.

Fees for different categories:

  • Standard visitor visa: £127 (maximum stay 6 months)

  • For medical reasons: £220 (maximum stay 11 months)

  • For academics visa: £220 (maximum stay 12 months)

  • Two-year long-term visitor visa: £475 (maximum stay 6 months per visit

  • 5-year long-term visitor visa: £848 (maximum stay 6 months per visit)

  • 10-year long-term visitor visa: £1,059 (maximum stay 6 months per visit)

Online application

Visa applicants must apply online and book an appointment at a VFS Global Visa Application Centre in the UAE to submit biometrics (photo and fingerprints). VFS Global also offers optional premium services such as lounge access, courier delivery, and document scanning for additional comfort or convenience.

Each visa type requires different documentation, so check your visa type carefully. Once you have completed and paid for your visa application on Gov. UK, you will be directed to the VFS Global website to book an appointment at a Visa Application Centre, so your biometric data (fingerprints and photograph) can be captured.

The earliest you can apply is three months before you travel.
