Telecom operator du said one of the two cable cuts has been restored but the second one might take weeks
Dubai: Telecom operator du said one of the two cable (SMW3) cuts has been restored but the second one might take weeks.
"We are happy to report some updates on the cable cuts matter as we received a confirmation from operators that the cut was restored on December 26, 2011 at 21:00. As to the second cable [i2i], the repair is likely to take one or two weeks, according to the cable operators," a du spokesperson said in a statement.
"We confirm once again that there is no impact on internet usage and quality since the issue has been fully contained. We also did not receive any complaints by our customers on degradation of internet speeds experienced."
Du earlier informed its customers of possible disruptions in internet services due to cable cuts.
"For further assurance, we follow a standard practice of deployment of a capacity buffer of 20-30 per cent out of the total internet capacity on international links for emergent incidents. The cable cuts caused some capacity reduction, but the reduction was within the set threshold. Thus, internet service degradation is unlikely because the buffer taken into account exceeds the percentage of capacity reduction."
