What is Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)?

Indoor air quality is a measure of how wholesome the air you breathe in indoors is. Poor IAQ can lead to discomfort, illness and subsequent loss of productivity. Good IAQ will result in a healthier life-style and a more motivated and attentive workforce in the work place. Today, people are aware of the importance of IAQ. For professionals, it is an integral part of the 'Green Building' concept.

Why is IAQ important?

Good indoor air quality is one of the keys to health and productivity. Studies show that poor indoor air quality adversely affects 20-30 per cent of office buildings.

How can we improve it?

Robert Beaty, Business Unit Manager, of the Service Division at UTS Carrier, shares with us few basic pointers for an air conditioner's effective and efficient performance:

  • Proper installation and operation of the units as per manufacturer's instructions
  • Following basic maintenance steps at home i.e. cleaning the filters regularly and keeping the area around the unit tidy and clean
  • A maintenance agreement with the manufacturer's service centre or the authorised service outlets. The technical expertise of the trained technicians from the equipments original manufacturer makes all the difference to a longer, trouble-free life for your air conditioner.
  • During repairs and maintenance, insist on the use of genuine parts directly from the manufacturers
