Tehran: Singapore's minister for foreign affairs said his country is eager to expand cooperation with Iran in industries unaffected by international sanctions against the country.
Singapore will send delegations to Iran to look into investment opportunities, George Yeo said in Tehran yesterday during a three-day visit to Iran. His comments were aired live by Iranian state television.
"We abide by United Nations sanctions and follow them to the letter," said Yeo, speaking at a press conference with his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki. "We try to expand cooperation in areas that are not covered by sanctions."
Yeo did not specify industries in which Singapore may have an interest.
The United Nations has imposed four rounds of trade and financial sanctions on Iran, while the US and European Union have applied separate measures of their own.
