Dubai: Jumeirah Group, the state-owned hotel company, issued a statement on Sunday reiterating its commitment to employing Emiratis.

Emiratis constitute a “fundamental pillar” of Jumeirah’s drive towards the future, the firm said in a statement, issued via Dubai Media Office’s official Twitter account.

“We are committed to enhancing Emiratis’ opportunities to develop their professional capabilities,” the group wrote, adding that 24 per cent of the Emiratis working at Jumeirah occupied leadership positions.

The hotel chain, which owns the Burj Al Arab and the Madinat Jumeirah, among a number of other prominent hotels in the region, declined to provide any additional comment when contacted by Gulf News on Sunday evening.

Dubai Media Office’s tweet appears to come at a time of unrest at the company, following unverified complaints yesterday on social media about Jumeirah’s new management.

On Sunday afternoon, several individuals claimed on Twitter that the company had fired a number of Emiratis, including two directors. The posts were written in Arabic.

Gulf News could not verify these claims, and when Jumeirah was reached for a comment statement, they pointed to the Dubai Media Office statement on Twitter, saying they had nothing to add.
