Dubai: Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) said Monday that it had signed an agreement with China’s Huawei, one of the world’s largest technology firms, at a meeting between the pair in Shenzhen.

Gulf News reported exclusively on Sunday that a senior government delegation from Dubai was heading to China to sign agreements with a number of leading companies, including Huawei, in a bid to lure more Chinese tourists to the emirate.

Confirming this report, Dubai Tourism said this new agreement, which follows a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in January, further emphasises the “strong commitment of both Dubai Tourism and Huawei” to promoting Dubai as “the destination of choice for Chinese tourists.”

The statement says that to begin with, Huawei plans to preload all its devices with both user-generated and official pictures and videos of Dubai.

Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM) met with Alex Zhang, president of Huawei Consumer Cloud Service, Gene Jiao, president of Consumer Business Group, Middle East and Africa, and Jervis Su, vice president of Huawei Consumer Cloud Service.

Huawei is one of the largest information technology companies in the world, roughly equivalent in size to IBM with annual revenues of $78.5 billion (Dh288.33 billion).
