Dubai: "It's a great feeling for us and re-affirms our commitment to providing quality services to our customers," said Sudhir Shetty, chief operating officer of UAE Exchange, after walking away with a Dubai Quality award.

"The Dubai Quality Awards have helped to greatly improve the business industry of the UAE by putting more responsibility on businesses and encouraging them to keep improving themselves," he told Gulf News.

UAE Exchange is one of the Dubai Quality Award laureates. Thirty years ago the company began operations as a single branch in Abu Dhabi.

It has since grown to 84 branches nationwide and 475 offices worldwide.

It has a presence in 16 countries including Oman, Kuwait and Qatar, and employs more than 2,700 people in the UAE and 6,800 globally.

The company won the Dubai Quality Appreciation Award in 2006, the Dubai Service Excellence Scheme for 2006 and 2007, and the Dubai Human Development Appreciation Award for 2008. UAE Exchange also received the Shaikh Khalifa Excellence Award in the finance sector for 2009 and was awarded Superbrand status in the UAE.

According to Shetty, the company has maintained its competitive edge by adopting the latest available technologies, maintaining excellent customer service and building partnerships with almost every branch worldwide.

"The market is becoming highly competitive.

"We try to remain at the top by offering services at affordable prices to customers and keeping abreast of changing technology and adapting the new.

"Today we are a household name in whatever country we are operating because we place a lot of emphasis on listening and responding to our customers," he said.

UAE Exchange achieved 30 per cent growth annually between 2006 and 2008, Shetty said. Growth in 2009 slowed to 22 per cent amid the global economic downturn, he added.
