Abu Dhabi: 
The 11th edition of the Middle East’s largest defence exhibition, the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (Idex 2013) was officially inaugurated at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) on Sunday by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Shaikh Mohammad toured the exhibition along with senior officials.

He was accompanied by General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, other Shaikhs, ministers of defence from participating countries in Idex, government officials and diplomats.

Parachuters from the UAE armed forces and the UAE Air Force were part of the splendid performance at the opening ceremony. Musical bands from Japan and Fiji also participated.

The UAE’s Armed Forces put up a display on land, air and sea show marking the opening of Idex 2013.

Some 1,112 exhibitors from as many as 58 countries are participating this year in Idex with as many as 107 firms from the UAE.

Idex 2013 showcases the latest defence equipment and services for land, sea and airborne systems with national, regional and international delegations and world defence industries.
