Dubai: Vsun, an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) based in Shenzhen, China, has launched its flagship limited-edition smartphone known as DNA.

Price at Dh899, the flagship five-inch 3G device comes with handcrafted leather and laser-cut finish, an octa-core 1.7GHz MediaTek processor coupled with 2GB RAM, a dual SIM, 16GB of inbuilt storage capacity and unique gesture control software features.

The company is retailing the device for Dh699 at Gitex and giving away an extra leather cover plus a screen protector and selfie stick.

“Since our launch six-months ago, we are available in 15 countries — [including GCC states], Egypt, Africa and CIS [Commonwealth of Independent States],” Swithin D’Silva, Vsun’s regional director, told Gulf News. Vsun is targeting low- to mid-segment consumers.

“Consumers are looking for value for money and we are targeting that sector,” he said.

The company claims to manufacture tens of millions of devices every year for other vendors.

“We have tied up with premium distributors and the sales have taken off more than we expected.

So far at Gitex, the sales have been good and we expect to capture 10 per cent of the Gitex smartphone sales,” D’Silva said.

The company has launched six models currently and will have couple of models more this year.

“Our aim is to put the smartphone in everyone’s hand. The smartphone market is not crowded as the mobility sector is growing very fast. So there is still room for new players,” he said.
