Dubai: To balance out its big and flashy malls, Dubai has launched The Outlet Village, a shopping destination that will offer established brands at discounted prices in a luxury setting.

Modelled after other outlet villages in Europe, the first phase of the opening will cover nearly 140,000 sq metres and with additional phases add up to 300,000 sq metres, said developer Meraas, in a statement on Monday.

Located in Jebel Ali, The Outlet Village is inspired by the hilltop town of San Gimignano in Italy, a Unesco World Heritage Site.

It will initially house three department stores, family attractions and dining outlets. The 125 brands already present include DKNY, Dunhill, Guiseppe Zanotti, Ted Baker, Tommy Hilfiger, Diesel and BCBGMAXAZRIA alongside multibrand stores such as Priceless and Etoile that will sell all their designer brands including Fendi, Tom Ford, Jimmy Choo, Valentino, Tory Burch, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana and Kenzo.

Food outlets include PF Chang’s, Operation Falafel, Tashas, Godiva and The Brass.

Dubai already has a global reputation for its glitzy malls. Mall of the World, a 745,000 square metre shopping space with 100 hotels will soon be built on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road by developer Dubai Holding.

The Outlet Village’s Dubai-based developer Meraas is behind other retail developments including City Walk Dubai, The Beach JBR, Box Park Dubai and food truck park Last Exit.

Complimentary coaches to The Outlet Village will be offered from selected hotels and tourist destinations in Dubai, including from The Beach in JBR. Opening hours are 10am to 10pm (from Sunday to Wednesday) and 10am to midnight (from Thursday to Saturday).
