Dubai: A Dubai-based hospitality industry veteran, Gaurav Sinha, has set up a consultancy called Quillon Hospitality to offer development and management advisory.

“The past few years have brought immense shake-ups and formative change within almost every facet of the hospitality sector,” said Sinha. “Whether it’s the countless mergers and acquisitions in the OTA [online travel agency] ecosystem or the constant consolidation among the big brands.

“This is not the hospitality industry we grew up in. Why then should the archaic hospitality management and development model stay the same?”

Sinha had founded the Insignia Worldwide Group 14 years ago, a Dubai-based, a brand, design and communications consultancy. And he was able to see first-hand the hurdles faced by first-time developers and hoteliers.

Asset owners are now looking for more agility when it comes to selecting the right partner to “breathe” life, and revenue, into their assets.

“Look at the once behemoth technology companies that monopolised IT operations with exorbitant price tags and multi-year contract terms,” Sinha said. “The most successful tech companies of today have moved to more SAAS [software-as-service] based models, where the client can cherry-pick exactly the services they need, and pay for them monthly — no more, no less.

“I fundamentally believe that hospitality development, and the subsequent hospitality management, should not be any different.”
