Price index shows wide gap in costs

Dubai: The latest consumer price index released by the Ministry of Economy (MoE) revealed a price disparities with some basic commodities.

The index also revealed that Carrefour is the week's top pick with the best prices among retailers.

According to price index, rice and fish were among the products that showed significant price differences among retail outlets.

For instance, five kg of Basmati rice from India sells for Dh63 at Carrefour in Dubai, while it costs Dh75.75 at Lulu Centre in Dubai.

Whole salmon from Norway is priced at Dh20 per kilogramme at Carrefour, while Lulu Centre sells the same at Dh31.90.
