Seoul: General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Tuesday hailed a deal signed in January in South Korea to build four nuclear plants in the UAE.

Shaikh Mohammad referred to it as the "largest deal in the history of the two countries".

In a statement upon arrival in Seoul on a three-day trip to the Asian country, Shaikh Mohammad affirmed the UAE's commitment to clean energy, technology, IT and small and medium scale enterprises (SME)

He said he was pleased to visit South Korea, which is tied with UAE by a strategic relationship, stressing that President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has been keen on achieving increased cooperation between the UAE and South Korea.

Relations

"With South Korean consortium winning the contract to build four reactors as part of the UAE's peaceful nuclear programme, the relations between the two countries have witnessed significant, strategic transformations. The Abu Dhabi-Seoul deal is the largest in the history of bilateral relations," Shaikh Mohammad said.

"The two-way trade exchange is seeing sustained growth, underpinning the deep bilateral economic relations and showing a rise of 43 per cent in 2009," said Shaikh Mohammad.

"South Korea is one of the top key trading partners of the UAE. Korean investment in the UAE is also on the rise with more than 120 companies operating in several sectors including heavy industries and IT," he added.
