The Arab world's biggest gathering of political, business and media leaders opens today.
The three-day Arab Strategy Forum should be a catalyst for free debate, said General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence, who will deliver the opening address.
Shaikh Mohammad wants the forum to encourage dialogue and eliminate barriers, and create opportunities for growth and development in a region plagued by wars, foreign occupation and a lack of democracy.
"Our region is at crossroads. Our fates are inexorably tied. We can either succeed together, or fail together," Shaikh Mohammad said in a statement. Present at the forum will be former US President Bill Clinton, Arab ministers and opinion leaders from Arab and other countries.
