Abu Dhabi: Masdar is considering the construction of wind-power projects in two areas of the former Soviet Union without specifying these venues, according to Sultan Al Jaber, Masdar CEO.

"In the [former Soviet Union], we have talks for two opportunities to build wind energy plants," said Al Jaber.

Speaking at a press conference, Al Jaber said the UAE had expertise in the field of energy which would help the country go ahead with its future plans.

"We have projects in the UK, Spain and the US and the UAE and we are exploring investment opportunities in Europe and beyond to safeguard good investment returns for us," he added.

He pointed out that Abu Dhabi was selected to house the secretariat of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), marking the first time an international organisation has chosen a Middle East city for its headquarters.
