Dubai: The Jebel Ali Free Zone based AquaChemie is buying an Abu Dhabi based company for over Dh100 million, thus expanding its specialty chemical production capacity.

Global Chemicals Company - located in ICAD, Abu Dhabi – operates a 26,000 square meter facility and is the ‘in-situ’ sulfur trioxide manufacturing and sulphonation plant in the wider Middle East, Africa and Europe.

The Abu Dhabi facility also has a multi-product liquid synthesis and blending operation, allowing for a range of specialty chemical formulations.

AquaChemie – which has hitherto been into chemicals storage and support services – thus enters manufacturing with ‘enhanced capabilities to produce critical upstream oil and gas chemicals’.

This includes sodium asphalt sulphonate, corrosion inhibitors, demulsifiers, biocides, surfactants, and hydrogen sulfide scavengers and various other specialty chemicals. (These are typically imported or manufactured overseas, leading to supply chain delays and increased costs, according to the company.)

“This acquisition is a game-changer—not just for AquaChemie, but for the UAE’s chemicals and oilfield services sectors,” said V. Anandkumar, CEO and Managing Director, AquaChemie. “By localizing R&D and production, we can respond faster to our customers’ needs, provide tailor-made chemical solutions, and significantly reduce turnaround times.”
