Ikea recalls Parodi glass vases over shatter scare
Dubai: Ikea, the world's largest furniture retailer, yesterday said it was recalling 600,000 glass vases sold around the world after seven people received injuries when the glass shattered easily.
Ikea's local franchise Al Futtaim Group is offering full refund. "Ikea wants customers who have bought a Parodi glass vase from suppliers to bring it back to the Exchange and Returns Department at their local Ikea store, for a full refund. No other vases are affected," it said.
Tarja Arvela, Marketing Manager of Ikea UAE, said, "No customer incidents are reported in the UAE, and the Al Futtaim Group is making sure that all Ikea UAE consumers are well notified of this product problem, in order to ensure our customers' safety."
The vases, sold under the names Parodi and Apelsin, should be returned to the shop and customers will be refunded, the Swedish retailer said.
"Ikea has received reports of incidents where the base of Parodi vase broke for no apparent reason while the vase was being lifted. Seven customers sustained cuts and in five cases hospital treatment was required," an e-mailed statement said.
