Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday conferred the Zayed Order on South Korean President Lee Myung-bak.

The honour was conferred on the visiting dignitary after Shaikh Khalifa received Lee at Al Mushrif Palace.

The Zayed Order is conferred on leaders of countries that share deep friendly and cooperative relations that witness development and growth in all fields with the UAE.

Lee expressed his gratitude to Shaikh Khalifa for the honour and praised the relations between the UAE and South Korea.

He also wished the UAE more progress and prosperity under the leadership of Shaikh Khalifa.

During the meeting, they discussed the friendly and cooperative bilateral relations between the UAE and South Korea.

The Korean President was also greeted by General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Ghurair, Speaker of the FNC, and other Shaikhs and senior officials.

Shaikh Khalifa also greeted the high-level delegation accompanying the South Korean President, which includes a number of ministers and senior officials.

Shaikh Khalifa and Lee also conducted a session of discussions, which was attended by General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed.

Shaikh Khalifa welcomed the Korean President and his accompanying delegation, expressing his hope that his visit would contribute to enhancing joint cooperation between the countries, as well as achieving more progress in the fields of investment, economy, and especially energy.

Achievements

They also discussed achievements and steps taken towards cooperation in the transfer of economic knowledge in the fields of technology, industry, and investment projects that develop and boost economic relations between the UAE and South Korea.

Shaikh Khalifa and Lee discussed the latest economic and political developments of mutual interest on the regional and international level.

The UAE and South Korea expressed their solidarity with Japan, in its loss of human life and property.

Agreement: Medical data sharing

A five-year agreement to exchange medical knowledge has been signed between the UAE Ministry of Health and the South Korean delegation. Dr Hanif Hassan, UAE Minister of Health, met with Chin Soo-hee, South Korean Minister of Health and Welfare, to discuss the development of health relations between the two countries, in order to enhance exchange of visits and experiences between medical and technical staff. A committee with three members from each country, will meet once a year as part of the MoU.

Deal to enhance project management

The Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Actvet) and the Korean Project Management Association (KPMA) yesterday signed a deal that will assist the Emirates Project Management Academy to continue its work of establishing world-class project management practices in the UAE.
