Dubai: Dubai Festival City mall has added eight new stores as part of its ongoing expansion efforts, Al Futtaim Group Real Estate (AFGRE), the real estate development and operations arm of Al Futtaim Group, reported on Sunday.

“We are committed to bringing exceptional global brand experiences to the mall and this recent wave of new retail and food and beverage offerings is part of our vision to provide our visitors with the widest possible choice while enabling them to truly enjoy the time they spend at Dubai Festival City mall,” said Murray Bell, managing director of retail and leisure at AFGRE.

The stores, which opened in the first half of this year, carry brands across fashion, footwear, apparel, jewellery as well as healthcare and financial services.

Some of these include Stadium, a sports and lifestyle brand, Eyezone, an optical specialist, and Koraba, a luxury jewellery brand, as well as Commercial Bank International.

Al Futtaim is planning further expansions within Dubai Festival City mall during the upcoming summer months.

“As our industry evolves, we will continue to adapt mall offerings to keep pace with customer needs and further enrich our tenant mix to provide visitors with a more robust shopping experience,” Bell said.

Nakheel expansion

Meanwhile, property developer Nakheel issued a tender on Sunday to seek contractors to start working on the expansion of Ibn Battuta mall. The tender documents can be received after presenting a tender fee of Dh50,000 and a copy of the tenderer’s valid trade licence, staring from Sunday. The last submission date is July 7.

The 28,000 square metre expansion, 17,000 square metres of which is leasing space, is expected to attract an additional 150 stores. Currently, Ibn Battuta has over 270 shops, 50 restaurants and a 21-screen cinema.

Nakheel has announced work on a number of projects in recent months.

Dragon Mart, among Nakheel’s developments, will complete phase 2 of its new extension of 570 stores by the first half of 2014.

In addition, the company’s Dh2.5 billion Nakheel Mall on the Palm Jumeirah is expected to be completed in 2016. It will have 200 stores, including a 4,200 square metre supermarket, two anchor department stores, a cinema and six medical clinics.
