Dubai: The Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) will this year be held via virtual means from November 8 to 12. The event is one of the signature events for the global energy industry.

The announcement comes after a directive from Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism that events should not take place in the wake of continuing COVID-19 restrictions. The next full in-person annual exhibition and conferences will take place from November 8 to 11 next year, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, which hosts the event, said on its website.

This year’s event comes as energy firms reel from the impact of low oil prices and the pandemic influenced erosion of demand, which has brought the global economy to a near standstill. Oil prices, currently trading at $44.22 a barrel, went into negative territory on June futures for the first time in history on April 20.

Heads of global energy giants, oil executives, and ministers are expected to share their views on oil markets and the future of the commodity at ADIPEC. They will also announce their production and investment plans for 2021.
