Portugal's priority is to focus on energy efficiency and renewable energies, thus marking its presence in Middle East Energy (MEE), one of the largest international fairs in the energy sector.

This growing commitment was the main reason that led to this visit, which allowed Portugal collect a wide range of information - technologies, knowhow, business opportunities, etc. - and contacts - business and institutional - that are disseminated by the business organisation, encouraging Portuguese companies to participate in a future edition.

Thus, it can be said that Middle East Energy is a strategic opportunity for Portuguese companies to meet the key players in the sector, assess the demand and needs that it involves, acquire knowledge, develop new business areas and strengthen existing ones.

Simultaneously, it was an opportunity to show the potential of the Aveiro region as an investment destination, as well as the quality of its companies and the various strategic sectors of the national industry. It should also be noted that the economy of the region has a GDP per capita above the national average, as well as a very high level of labour productivity and export intensity.

It is also important to mention that one of the biggest competitive advantages of the District of Aveiro, in the national context, is its privileged geostrategic location. This advantage is consolidated essentially by the vast presence of transport infrastructures, which enable different modes of mobility such as rail, sea, air, road, pedestrian and cycling and allow a rapid inter-regional and international connection.

Being the seventh Portuguese city with the best quality of life, ahead of Porto (10th), the Aveiro region has a solid business fabric, with a high number of new companies and a strong predominance of the manufacturing industries and wholesale trade.

MEE is the largest circular economy event in the Middle East, considered as a significant sample of solutions to drive the energy transition, where participants are updated with the latest news and content related to sustainability.

This is a market of interest for companies in the Aveiro region, not only because energy costs are the key factor for the survival and competitiveness of companies, but also because it is an opportunity to learn about the latest technologies in this sector.
