The University of Bolton, Academic Centre - Ras Al Khaimah is one of the longest serving Universities in Ras al Khaimah. Established in 2008 the University is licensed by the Government of Ras Al Khaimah, Academic Zone. The Academic Centre offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs, split into two distinct schools of Business and Engineering. The subjects offered compliment the industries in UAE and the programmes prepare students for employment upon graduation using embedded attributes for employment within every module, complimented by careers counselling and highly successful internship programme.

Programmes available include Business, Accountancy, Law (LLB), Psychology, Computing, Film and Media Production, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering and Civil Engineering. Postgraduate offering includes MBA, MSc Accountancy and Financial Management, MSc Constructive Project Management, MSc Engineering Management and MSc Software Engineering. For students leaving school, the Academic Centre also offers vocational foundation programmes as an alternative to a-levels, offering an alternative for students completing their iGCSE or grade 10.

The Academic Centre also offer significant support services to the students. This includes a range of scholarships for academically deserving students, as well as support to the students through personal tutoring sessions and personal development guidance. Students are encouraged to participate in the full University experience through extracurricular activities and the Student Council organizing debates, committees, events and competitions throughout the academic year.

The teaching style within the Academic Centre can be described as student centric, promoting the concept of students as active researchers, contributing to their fields of study with original and innovative research projects. This has seen students achieve awards for their academic prowess such as Saad Amin Karsaz (MBA) who was awarded the Governors Prize for scoring highest marks among all MBA students across Bolton students both domestic and international..

The Academic Centre was awarded the title of Best Educational Provider at RAKEZ Business Excellence Awards 2020. The quality of teaching reflects well on the student’s success rate each year from all disciplines. Faculties at the Academic Centre have achieved Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA-UK), their experience and qualifications assist in addressing distinct learning styles, additional education needs, personal interests, cultural backgrounds of both individuals and groups in their care.

The Academic Centre is not just fantastic for high quality UK Higher Education, the students are readily encouraged to take part in local, regional and international competitions. Many of these are driven by the close working relationship the Centre has with Professional Bodies such as British Computer Society (BCS), IMechE, ICE, IEEE, ACCA, CIMEA all of which guide our students towards the pathway for professional status upon graduation.

The major project for Honours Degrees and Post Graduate study are contextualised using real life scenarios - or set in conjunction with employers seeking recommendations to an existing problem in their industry. Our students exhibited an innovative idea by delivering an autonomous weighing trolley to ease the travellers at the airports. The idea gained such attention from the authorities that the students were supported to develop and produce this in conjunction with RAK Airport and it was implemented once the final version was thoroughly tested. Our students continue to research and produce excellent quality projects and provide solutions to the organisational issues during their internship or placement opportunity, many go on to be published in Scopus listed journals.

Some of the other notable achievements include Inter college Environmental Public Speaking Competition organized by Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) Dubai, Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) Securities Exchange Virtual Stock Game Competition. Speak Out for Engineers, Regional and Global winners; Robotics club has provided the students to compete in groups and go on to display their talents at the GCC level in the Robotics Competition winning three consecutive years. In recent years the projects are increasingly factoring the environmentally conscious aspects with School of Engineering and Computing students exhibiting at the Gulf Traffic event at Dubai World Trade Centre for Driving Innovation Award, the projects were focused on Energy Harvesting for EV, E-Transporter, Mobile App Based Parking System for UAE Roads.

The students studying can be assured of receiving not only a degree that is fit for purpose, but an education that focuses on our graduates becoming well rounded, employable and conscious of the skills needed to be successful on an international platform.
