Dubai: talabat, the region’s leading food and grocery delivery platform, has announced its official agreement with The UAE Food Bank, a non-profit charitable organisation under the umbrella of the His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), as part of its mission to help tackle food waste in the United Arab Emirates.

The partnership marks the latest milestone for talabat in its efforts to align the company’s business practices with the UAE 2021 Vision and the national strategies that call for sustainability and food waste reduction. This trajectory is also in line with the objectives of The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals(UNSDG), in particular, UNSDG’s goal number 12, which aims to “halve the per capita food waste at the retail and consumer levels by 2030.”

The agreement, an official partnership between talabat and the UAE Food Bank, whereby talabat mart, the 24x7 quick-commerce grocery platform launched by talabat in late February, will donate items that are nearing their expiry date, but still safe for human consumption to the UAE Food Bank. The UAE Food Bank will then donate these products to people in need by distributing them to approved organizations and charities around the UAE.

Ali Aldamanhori, General Manager of talabat mart UAE, is happy to be able to help those less fortunate, while also reducing food waste. "On behalf of talabat, I would like to thank the UAE Food Bank for the opportunity to be part of such a noble cause. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a rise in the need for greater food access and food security around the world. By joining forces with The UAE Food Bank, we will be able to fulfill our duty towards our community, while contributing to the government’s national effort to reduce food wastage and to provide food for those in need. People are at the heart of everything we do at talabat, and we are proud to support the UAE Food Bank as it works to deepen the sense of compassion and responsibility for the underprivileged in society, through encouraging a culture of food sharing."

Dubai Municipality Food Safety Director, Iman Ali Al-Bastaki said, “With talabat onboard our mission, we’ll be increasing our network of partners in the foodservice industry and there is no doubt that we will be able to expand our reach within the country. The company’s positive reputation in the market and strong relationship with key stakeholders makes it a key ambassador for our cause. We are looking forward to nurturing our relationship with talabat UAE further and are confident that this partnership will yield positive results for all parties involved and ultimately those in need.”

This is one of many initiatives talabat has undertaken as part of its integrated sustainability and food waste management plan, which was built on its corporate values and vision. By utilizing its extensive knowledge of the food industry and access to advanced technology, as well as its vast network of suppliers and customers, the company is able to contribute to the greater good of communities across the United Arab Emirates.

The official partnership between talabat and The UAE Food Bank was launched on October 16 to commemorate World Food Day and help raise awareness on the importance of food waste reduction and its pivotal role in fighting food hunger.
