Dubai: Emirates NBD on Friday notified its customers that international transfers made through its DirectRemit service will carry a Dh26.25 fee per transaction starting September 1, 2025.

Emirates NBD's DirectRemit service currently allows instant, zero-fee transfers to banks in India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Egypt, Sri Lanka, and the United Kingdom, with a minimum transfer of Dh100.

In a customer communication seen by Gulf News, Emirates NBD stated on Sunday: “Effective Monday, September 1, 2025, charge of Dh26.25 will be applicable for International Transfers (Including DirectRemit) remittance service initiated from ENBD X or Online Banking. The fee is inclusive of VAT.”

Emirates NBD clarifies

While the original notice suggested a change from the bank’s previous offering of free transfers through DirectRemit, the bank since clarified that this fee will only apply to non-core corridors, and that transfers to key countries such as India, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Egypt will remain free of charge.

So the Dh26.25 fee applies only to international transfers made to destinations outside these popular corridors, when initiated through the bank’s mobile app (ENBD X) or online banking platform.

The bank confirmed on Saturday that it will be issuing a formal press release and notifying affected customers directly via email to clarify the scope of the update.

How does it work with other UAE banks?

International wire transfers by UAE banks typically carry fees ranging from Dh20 to Dh60, depending on the channel and destination.

Customers are advised to review their transfer history to understand how the change may affect them and to consider comparing rates and fees with other available services.

Emirates NBD has not announced any changes to its existing exchange rate margins or processing times as part of this update.
