The expansion marks IndiGo’s fifth destination in the UAE
Dubai: Indian expatriates in the UAE now have more affordable options to connect with their homeland as IndiGo, India’s biggest airline by market share, has launched daily direct flights between Fujairah and Mumbai, as well as Fujairah and Kannur in Kerala. This expansion marks IndiGo’s fifth destination in the UAE, following Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and its 41st international connection.
The new flights cater to business and leisure travellers and come when Fujairah is looking to boost its adventure tourism, including a planned cross-emirate adventure trail with Ras Al Khaimah, IndiGo has said.
Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, said, “IndiGo already flies to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah in the UAE. As our 41st international destination and fifth in the UAE, Fujairah offers immense potential for trade, tourism, and business.”
Malhotra said, “With these flights, IndiGo connects 20 Indian cities to the UAE with over 280 weekly flights, furthering our goal of global connectivity while offering our customers affordable, on-time, and seamless travel experiences.”
The airline highlighted that the flight timings are coordinated with bus schedules, aiming to provide a seamless travel experience for those exploring various parts of the UAE, from Sharjah to Dubai.
Yesterday, IndiGo also launched direct flights to UAE’s capital city, Abu Dhabi, from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Bhubaneswar in Odisha starting next month. The flights on the Bhubaneswar–Abu Dhabi routes will operate three times a week, effective June 12, and between Visakhapatnam- Abu Dhabi four times a week, starting June 13.
IndiGo said by introducing these direct flights, the airline “is enhancing travel convenience for passengers, expanding international access to regional markets, and catering to the growing demand from both business and leisure travellers.”
All these expansions follow IndiGo’s recent announcement of new services from India to Manchester and Amsterdam Schiphol, scheduled to commence in July 2025. These routes are part of the airline’s ambition to connect the Indian market with key European destinations. IndiGo intends to utilize the Norse Atlantic Airways’ aircraft on these longer-haul routes as an interim solution, eventually replacing them with its fleet of Airbus A350-900s.
The airline has 30 wide-body A350-900 aircraft on order from Airbus, with the first delivery expected in 2027.
