Dubai: Budget carrier flydubai will operate flights between Dubai and Zagreb in Croatia, taking over the operations temporarily from its partner Emirates airline.

Emirates said on Monday that flights between the two cities from December 2 to March 30, 2019 will be operated by flydubai, after which they will be operated by Emirates again. The carrier said the move will ensure maximising frequencies in the winter.

“The move will ensure that capacity is deployed to best serve customer demand by maximising the frequency for passengers during the winter season,” Emirates said in its statement.

Flydubai will operate the route with its new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, in a two-class configuration. Emirates currently operates the route in a three-class configuration, and using a Boeing 777 aircraft, according to its website.

Flydubai’s Zagreb flights will operate from Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport.

Emirates has been operating its service to Zagreb on a daily basis since June 2017 to strengthen its presence in Croatia.

The move is the latest in a series of measures to work together after Emirates and flydubai announced a partnership deal in mid-2017. The two currently code-share to over 90 destinations, with more expected to follow. Over 794,000 passengers have been served through the code-shares so far, Emirates said.

Under the deal, Emirates passengers receive complimentary meals, which are normally paid-for on flydubai, and get the Emirates baggage allowance.
