Dubai: Dubai’s flagship carrier, Emirates, has cancelled its flights to Brisbane, Australia, due to the adverse conditions caused by Tropical Storm Alfred.

Emirates has cancelled all flights operating to and from Brisbane from March 6 to 9, affecting flights EK430, EK434, EK435, and EK431 on these dates.

“Customers affected by these cancellations and starting their journey in Dubai to Brisbane or from Brisbane to Dubai will be automatically rebooked and notified by Emirates,” the airline said. Emirates will send the new itinerary to passengers using the email address provided in the booking.

Furthermore, passengers who have connecting flights with a final destination in Brisbane will not be accepted for travel at their point of origin until further notice, said the airline.

In a message to passengers, Emirates said, “If you wish to travel on an alternate date or from another airport in the same region, please contact your booking agent. Passengers who booked directly with Emirates can contact us for assistance.”

Emirates said it continues to monitor the weather conditions in Brisbane and will provide passengers with further updates as necessary.

Airlines continue to cancel flights en masse ahead of Cyclone Alfred reaching land. Qantas and Jetstar have announced they will halt all international and domestic flights in and out of Brisbane starting Thursday afternoon.

Hundreds of flights have been cancelled recently, with Gold Coast and Ballina airports in northern New South Wales shut since Wednesday. According to a Guardian report, other airports, including Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, remain open for limited services,

While Brisbane airport will remain open to host emergency flights and other remaining services, Qantas has announced it will suspend all operations, including those of its budget carrier Jetstar. Multiple international carriers have also suspended services in Brisbane ahead of the cyclone.
