Dubai: An unruly passenger forced a Qantas flight headed to Dubai do U-turn and return to London Heathrow on Monday night.

The flight was around an hour into the flight to Dubai and crew were preparing to serve the evening meal when a passenger had a violent outburst and had to be restrained, reports Australian media.

In a statement, Qantas did not specify what exactly caused the outburst.

“This type of disruption inconveniences our customers and comes at significant cost to Qantas, but we take a zero tolerance approach to aggressive behaviour on board,” the airline said in a statement.

Australia’s The Telegraph reports it took six crew to restrain the passenger, who was on the upper deck of the Airbus A380 aircraft.

Police removed the man at Heathrow and took statements from passengers.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman told News Corp they had detained a 40-year-old British man.

The flight landed back in London just before midnight GMT, and took off again at about 2.20am local time. It is due to land in Dubai at 12.50pm.
