Dubai: The latest technologies and innovations in aviation will be showcased at the Airport Show, which kicks off in Dubai on May 7 and brings together over 350 exhibitors from 60 countries.

The annual event, now in its 18th edition, is expected to see over 7,500 visitors, and will host buyers representing 75 airports, ground-handling companies, police authorities, and immigration and aviation authorities.

The Airport Show will be inaugurated by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and CEO of Emirates airline and Group, and Chairman of Dubai Airports.

“We cannot make compromises to make passenger journeys better through airports. Whether it is the latest scanning technologies, passenger experiences, or robot baggage handlers, the region’s airports are investing in the latest technology and concepts to delight customers and stay [ahead] of the competition,” he said in a statement.

According to the Centre for Aviation (CAPA) data, up to $1.1 trillion (Dh4.03 trillion) is spent on airport construction globally — $255 billion of which is being invested in new airport projects, while $845 billion is being invested in projects such as runways and terminal buildings.

Co-located at the Airport Show will be the Airport Security Middle East exhibition. A Gartner study forecasts that the worldwide security spending will total $96.3 billion this year as organisations are spending more on security as a result of regulations and new threats.

Technological advancement has already been driving airport security market growth over the past few years.
