Alumco wins aluminium contract in Abu Dhabi
Dubai: Alumco, the UAE-based aluminium facade contractor and glass processor, has won a contract to provide aluminium composite cladding, aluminium and glazing works for the mixed-use development project undertaken by Morganti International for East and West International Group (EWIG) at Muroor Road in Abu Dhabi.
"We are extremely delighted to take up this challenging task. The mixed-use development project is special since it paves the way for our first step into Abu Dhabi. We consider this as a golden opportunity to contribute towards the development boom in the emirate.
"Right now, the project is at the design engineering phase. Alumco is set to begin work in February 2009 and is expected to finish its role by May 2010," said Samer Barakat, managing director of Alumco.
The contract won by Alumco involves the installation of 45,000 square metres of aluminium fittings, which will include 25,000 square metres of unitised curtain wall, 16,000 square metres of stick curtain wall sliding doors and 3,700 square metres of aluminium fins and 700 square metres of louvres.
Al Habtoor Engineering is the lead contractor to the overall project while Bainona Consulting Engineering Bureau is the consultant and Bayaty Architects are the architects.
The project is designed to have a luxury hotel, commercial complex and a number of residential apartments.
The project will consist of four towers - a 36-floor hotel tower, a 16-floor residential tower, a 20-floor service apartments building and a 16-floor office tower.
"Al Habtoor Engineering has chosen Alumco for this trendsetting project in Abu Dhabi owing to our excellent and proven track record in a specialised area of construction and engineering.
"Our initiatives to comply with the requirements of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, in line with the UAE's commitment to advance the green building concept, has also endeared us to all leading developers in the region," said Barakat.
