DUBAI: Pet owners in the city can now rejoice as a new dog park has opened close to Al Qudra Lake, where the canines were banned last December.

Situated in Sustainable City, the 1,000 square metre facility will cater to pet owners in communities such as Arabian Ranches, Mudon, Rem Raam, Layan, Al Waha, Motor City and Studio City.

“Recently, I was fined Dh500 for walking my dog in Al Qudra Lake and was wondering where I could take it, but now I have an option closer home,” said Arabian Ranches resident Richa Verma who has enrolled her dachshund puppy at the newly opened Sustainable City Dog Park.

A resident of Motor City who owns a German Shepherd said she is happy that dog lovers in her neighbourhood have a place to let their four-legged friends frolic.

Hadeel Ahmed, communication director at Sustainable City, said residents need to pay just Dh300 for an annual membership to the dog park.

“All breeds, ages and types of dogs are welcome here,” he said.

The park is open from 6am to 10pm and can accommodate about 25 dogs at a time. “We don’t want to make it crowded as dogs need space to move around. The park has a well shaded area where pet owners can socialise. “We also have a pet friendly plaza nearby with a fitness centre, restaurants and play area for kids,” said Hadeel.Dog Parks in the city
