ABU DHABI: Have you ever tried pasta in a cone or cornflakes in coffee? To dig into these innovative food concepts and more, head to Food Club Social at Yas Island on April 27 and 28. But be sure to click a photo for social media first.

The pasta in a cone concept was introduced to Abu Dhabi by home-grown pop-up restaurant 7 Cones. Creative manager Maria Antonia said the idea arose when they felt pasta should be a portable fast food like others.

“It is a very sit-down family dish. By serving it in a cone you make it more accessible for any time of the day,” she said.

Another twist in the menu will be offered by Flakes Hub which uses cornflakes in all its dishes. “Our burgers, salads, sandwiches and even beverages have cornflakes,” said owner Sawsan Rasti. “We have added a crispy, crunchy feel to all food.”

The two-day event, organised by marketing agency BRAG, will bring together 15 home-grown food concepts along live cooking stations, workshops, beach sports, performances, an outdoor beach cinema and more. People are encouraged to snap and share their food experiences via #SocialInRealLife

Food and photos

Club Social is a meet-up concept launched by BRAG six months ago to bring the online community together in a fun and engaging way.

Ramzi Nakad, co-founder of BRAG, explained that they chose food as their debut theme because people who share culinary experiences on social media get connected more.

“Research shows that food-related posts make up a quarter of social media activity. Sixty-nine per cent of millennials share photos or videos of food via their social channels,” he said.

“We chose the food concepts on the basis that they were home grown and instagrammable. Or they should offer a unique experience like the 3D printing candy machines which will be launched for the first time in Abu Dhabi, at the event,” he added.
