Motive behind the attack remains unclear and authorities have yet to issue a statement
Dubai: A Saudi family was violently attacked by a group of Turkish citizens in the northern Turkish town of İder, sparking outrage on social media and reigniting calls to boycott travel to the country.
A video circulating online shows a group of Turkish men physically assaulting a young Saudi man and his family in a crowded tourist area, while women can be heard screaming for help in the background. The video has quickly gone viral.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and Turkish authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. The assault took place in one of the country’s most visited tourist spots, popular among Gulf nationals, especially Saudis.
This is not the first incident to raise alarm. Just months ago, a Saudi businessman was threatened with a knife by a Turkish national at a restaurant in Istanbul’s upscale Maslak district. Turkish police arrested the suspect, who was later referred to judicial authorities on charges of assault and resisting arrest.
As of press time, no arrests have been made in the İder case, and the Saudi family’s condition remains unknown.
