Neighbors told police the couple’s relationship had long been marred by disputes
Dubai: A 19-year-old man in southern Egypt fatally stabbed his father during what authorities say was an attempt to protect his mother from domestic violence.
Police in Qena Governorate said they were called to a home in the town of Nag Hammadi after neighbors reported a disturbance.
Inside, officers found the body of a 50-year-old laborer lying in a pool of blood, with a single fatal stab wound to the chest.
According to investigators, the father had recently returned to Egypt from Saudi Arabia, where he had been working.
Neighbors told police the couple’s relationship had long been marred by disputes, which appeared to intensify during his month-long visit home.
On the day of the killing, authorities say a heated argument between the man and his wife escalated into a physical confrontation.
The couple’s teenage son reportedly intervened, first to shield his mother, and then after being shoved to grab a kitchen knife and stab his father once, killing him instantly.
The young man was arrested soon after. Police say he confessed, telling interrogators he had acted in defense of his mother and could no longer tolerate what he described as ongoing verbal and physical abuse toward her.
Prosecutors have opened an investigation, ordering forensic examinations and instructing police to gather additional witness testimony to establish the sequence of events. The suspect will remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.
