Dubai: A woman and her two daughters were found murdered at their apartment in Cairo, Egypt, while the father was watching the World Cup match between Egypt and Russia at a nearby cafe.

The mother, 38, was choked to death with her headscarf, according to Al Ahram newspaper.

The 14-year-old daughter was strangled using a telephone cord while her 12-year-old sister was killed by suffocating her with a pillow case.

The father, Salah Mursi Abu Al Abbas, told investigators that he left home around 6pm to watch the game.

When he came home later he discovered the gruesome murder of his family and 300,000 Egyptian pounds, ($17,000) missing.

The neighbours called the police after hearing the screams of the father.

CCTV footage from a nearby shop shows a woman and man entering the building during the time of the murder. They were not from the neighbourhood.

The crime is still under investigation.
