Mixed feeling as Hamas marks second year in power

Gaza: It's been a couple of years since Hamas took over Gaza in June 2007.

Since then a crippling siege has been imposed on the territory and infighting has increased between Palestinian factions.

Gulf News spoke with local Gazans to gauge their feelings on what has happened since the takeover.

"Right now we feel secure and safe, what was missed when Fatah was in power; Hamas insisted on imposing the law and stop the chaos we used to live,'' Mohammed Taha, 33, an accountant working in a private company said.

"I believe that our life was hard in the last two years, we are living under the siege and it's hard to leave Gaza, also we cannot express our political views any more, we faced a lot in the last two years and I wish that this will be changed,'' Foaud Ayad, 23, governmental sector employee, said.

“I believe in resistance but I think that Hamas made a mistake to forcibly take over Gaza this way,'' a 30-year-old teacher and left wing activist in the PLFP Hussam Mohana said.

“The prices have been doubled and tripled in the last two years all our goods comes through tunnels and it's not in the best quality,'' Khalid Al Hasaina, who owns a grocery store told Gulf News.
