The young cardiac surgeon collapsed before his colleagues after hours of surgery

Dubai: Dr. Ahmed Maher, an Egyptian cardiac surgeon at Cairo's Nasser Institute for Cardiology and Surgery, passed away suddenly while on duty after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The young doctor collapsed shortly after completing a grueling series of surgeries that lasted several hours, in front of his colleagues.
Medical sources reported that Dr. Maher, a respected figure in the operating room, showed signs of exhaustion but continued to care for his patients until the end. Despite desperate efforts by his colleagues to revive him, his heart could not be restarted.
Dr. Gamal Shaaban, former dean of the National Heart Institute, shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, saying, "Dr. Ahmed Maher passed away suddenly, still dressed in his scrubs, after completing a five-hour surgery schedule. He spoke briefly with his colleagues, feeling fatigued, then went to wash his face. Moments later, his heart stopped. His fellow cardiologists fought to save him but could not."
Dr. Shaaban added, "May he rest in eternal peace. God bless the kind-hearted and gentle soul of Dr. Ahmed Maher."
Egypt's Minister of Health, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, also mourned the loss, offering condolences to Dr. Maher’s family in an official statement.
