Arab media watch: August 1
Al Bayan (UAE), comment by Dr. Baqir Najjar:
US approach to the Middle East (since the neoconservatives came to power) is based on the perception that they can experiment with various ideas and theories that are produced by a group of American experts who in the West are considered ‘experts of the Middle East'.
They are the ones who draft the American plans and strategies with a feeling of superiority and sometimes a level of ignorance when it comes to the region's social and cultural affairs.
This ignorance leads to problems when there is reaction to this agenda.
Al Quds Al Arabi (UK-based), editorial:
These days, talk of a possible UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire has increased.
President Bush is saying he is working towards that goal and his secretary of state Condoleezza Rice says the resolution could be ready within one weak (starting from Monday).
Rice's focus on the week-long period is a response to Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's demands that he needed 10 to 14 days to complete the mission in Lebanon.
Al Watan (Qatar), comment by Abu Bakr Al Hasan:
The American collusion with Israeli aggression, which is demonstrated in the attempt of delaying a ceasefire, is thought to be a bad thing.
But it does not completely wipe out the good.
This is because American policies towards the Middle East have now been exposed and the Arab people will not have trust in the US, even if it tries to get close to them and lure them by signing an open business deal (especially after it has drowned its hands with Lebanese and Palestinian blood).
