Al Mukalla, Yemen: Thousands of resistance fighters in south Yemen are set to be trained by the UAE, and deployed in the strategic port city of Aden to provide security for the war-torn city.
Saleh Bin Fareed Al Awlaki, told Aden Al Ghad news site on Wednesday, that the resistance’s leadership had enrolled 6,000 of its men who were shortlisted for the crash-training programme.
“The forces would run police stations in all districts,” he said, adding that 750 personnel were selected from each district and would be trained in the coming days.
In July, local resistance fighters backed by a Saudi-led coalition of mostly Gulf Arab states, recaptured the city after months of bloody clashes with Al Houthis and forces loyal to ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
The city was used as base for launching a major military operation that enabled the resistance to push the militants out of most provinces in the southern parts of the country.
Early this week, local security officials told Gulf News that the UAE agreed to finance a plan to merge thousands of resistance fighters after training them on security know-how in training camps in the city.
Some men would join security colleges in the UAE.
