Muscat: Despite a law passed by Muscat Municipality on June 8 requiring all barber shops to use single-use kits, many shops are not complying Gulf News has learnt.
Nasser Al Badri, an Omani national, told Gulf News he had visited over five barber shops in Muscat and not a single one was using single-use kits.
“I would take my own barber kit to the shops, but after the law was passed I thought I didn’t have to anymore,” he said.
The new regulations aim to reduce health risks and the spreading of infections due to razors being used on multiple clients.
The single-use kit contains a razor, a plastic apron and an alcohol swab.
An official at Muscat Municipality contacted by Gulf News said that shops have been given until Eid Al Fitr to comply with the new regulation.
Customers have the choice to use the single-use kit or bring their own kit, the official said.
Shops that are caught violating the new regulations will be slapped with a 250 Omani rial (Dh2,384) fine. The fine will be doubled if the shop is caught repeating the offence.
