Muscat: The Down’s Syndrome Parent Support Group (DSPSG) in Oman will observe World Down’s Syndrome Day on March 21 with a wide range of activities at the Muscat Grand Mall, according to a press release issued by the group on Monday.

“The World Down’s Syndrome Day is officially observed on March 21 since 2006,” said Zuwaina Al Barwani, spokesperson of DSPG in Oman.

“The Down’s Syndrome International (DSI) chose this date to signify the uniqueness of Down’s syndrome in the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome and is used synonymously with Down’s syndrome,” she informs.

“As members of the Down’s Syndrome Parent Support Group in Oman, we would like to encourage many organisations/institutions to observe this special day together with the community in order to bring awareness and exposure of Down’s syndrome in Oman,” Zuwaina added.

She said that the group in Oman will host the public event at the Muscat Grand Mall with a wide range of activities, including awareness lectures and booths, and fun activities for kids that will have games, henna, face painting and more.
