Cairo: Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah today launched a vaccination campaign against COVID-19 and took the first dose of the vaccine in the country.
The first shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine against the disease had arrived in Kuwait earlier this week comprising 150,000 doses.
“The vaccine is safe and authorised by international agencies,” Al Khalid said. “The whole world is experiencing multiple and big stages because of the coronavirus. The vaccine provides the sole solution,” he added in media remarks at the Kuwait Vaccination Centre.
He urged people to abide by health measures to help life return to normal.
Other batches
Inspecting preparations for the vaccinations, Kuwait Health Minister Dr Basil Al Sabah said that other batches of the vaccine will later arrive in Kuwait and that the vaccination campaign will run for a year.
He added that the campaign will continue until “everyone benefit from the vaccination without exception”.
A second batch of 450,000 doses from vaccines developed by the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and other firms will arrive in Kuwait in the first quarter of 2021, Al Anba newspaper reported, citing well-informed sources.
The doses will be given to 225,000 Kuwaiti citizens and foreign residents, it added.
