Protest turns violent in Bahrain Shiite village of Abu Saiba
Manama: Bahrainis protested in the Shiite village of Abu Saiba, west of the capital Manama, on Sunday night.
The anti-riot police and protesters clashed for the second night in a row following the detention of a youth on Saturday.
During the three-hour confrontation, protesters burned refuse and hurled stones and empty bottles while the police fired tear gas and rubber bullets.
The young man, Radhi Ali, was arrested for his alleged role in a clash with the police.
Protesters said that the gathering on Sunday to press for his release was peaceful and accused the police of causing the violence by resorting to physical power.
But the police said that it had to intervene to disperse the crowd after the protesters staged an illegal demonstration and refused to comply with orders to disperse.
