London: The mystery over the death of David Kelly took a dramatic new turn last night after the police officer who discovered his body gave his first interview.
Detective Constable Graham Coe was the first official to arrive on the scene after the body of the weapons expert was discovered in woods near his Oxfordshire home seven years ago.
Lord Hutton's inquiry found that Dr Kelly, 59 who had been exposed by Tony Blair's Government as the source of a BBC report disputing the grounds for war in Iraq died from blood loss after slitting his left wrist with a blunt pruning knife.
Not a lot
But DC Coe now reveals how there was not much blood, if any on Dr Kelly's clothes, the ground or surrounding under-growth.
This casts serious doubt on the conclusion that the scientist haemorrhaged enough blood to cause his death.
DC Coe also now states that he and a fellow officer were accompanied by a third man when they discovered Dr Kelly.
Lord Hutton was told that there were only two men.
It raises serious questions about the conclusions reached by Lord Hutton.
