How close are we to a COVID-19 vaccine?

Drugmakers and research centres around the world are working on COVID-19 vaccines, with large global trials of several of the candidates involving tens of thousands of participants well underway.

BioNTech and Pfizer have announced that a vaccine for the coronavirus that they have developed was more than 90% effective in preventing the disease among trial volunteers who had no evidence of having previously been infected.
