Drug denied

Last updated:

London: Health bosses have refused to pay for a drug that could give a mother with stomach cancer 10 more years to live.

Maria Yacoub, 37, needs a higher dose of Glivec to stand a chance of prolonging her life. Her doctors fear she could be dead within a year if she does not get it. But Bromley primary care trust will not pay for the increased dose because it is too expensive. A year's supply would cost £36,000 (Dh239,400). It is the latest in a series of funding denials because of higher cost.
