Manila: An estimated 4,830 tonnes of sulfur dioxide were released on Sunday as the active Taal Volcano spewed out gas on Sunday, government volcanologists said.
In the past 24 hours, at least 13 volcanic earthquakes recorded at the volcano, which is about 65 km south of Manila., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Monday.
Phivolcs said that the quakes included a volcanic tremor that lasted for three minutes.
In the past 24 hours, the Taal Volcano Network recorded 13 volcanic earthquakes, including one volcanic tremor that spanned for three minutes and the low-level background tremor which has continued since July 7, 2021, stated in its bulletin in Filipino language.
Plumes up to 1,000-meter high were recorded in what volcanologists noted an “upwelling of volcanic gas” in the main crater’s lake.
The Phivolcs advised against entry to Taal Volcano island or the Taal Permanent Danger Zone and flying of any aircraft close to the volcano as steam-driven or phreatic explosions from Taal volcano’s main crater remain possible.
